Book Review: Hungry for You by AM Harte

Review: Hungry for You by AM Harte

Eleven tales of pure Zombie fun in this collection of short stories by British author A. M. Harte.

I am so in awe of this writer right now. How in the world can you take a Zombie, something so horrible, so incredibly gross with its decomposing parts and a penchant for munching on those closest to it, and turn it in to something you can feel sorry for or even root for? Well, this author accomplished just that with Hungry for You.

The Zombie stories in this anthology focus on the human side that’s left even while the body is ravaged. I really enjoyed how the author sees Zombies as having feelings, just trading desire, love and lust for an unrelenting hunger of a different kind and when you think about it, that really makes sense. In fact, here’s a quote from the book that sums it up:

“Love is horrible. It’s ruthless, messy, mind-altering, and raw. It takes no prisoners. It chews you up and spits you out and leaves you for dead. Love is, you could say, very much like a zombie.”

See what I am talking about? I loved this book! The stories are just so well done, so touching while still feeding my need to be entirely creeped out. I think some of the very best Horror tales have to make you care about the characters and be invested in what happens. I just can’t imagine how difficult that is when you are talking about mindless killer Zombies. What a fabulous job this author did! This story is an example of why I started eReaderPerks in the first place. Some books just deserve to be read because they really are that great; this is one of those books.
