Dark Journeys: A Short Story Collection by Jennifer Hudock
I was looking for a creepy short story collection to read coming off of Halloween (a holiday that is over much too quickly in my opinion!), and a friend recommended this book to me. It was a spot on recommendation! I am a huge fan of shows like the Walking Dead and the 28 Days Later films and was particularly intrigued by the bonus story “Two Weeks”.
The book was everything that I hoped it would be and more – “Two Weeks” was particularly disturbing–in a good way! Stories about the zombie apocalypse are popping up more and more but “Two Weeks” was really creative and had a very different (and super scary!) approach; definitely a unique twist. I also really loved the story with the werewolves… revenge stories are the best and this one was edge-of-your-seat scary. I liked the tone of the writing and thought that the author did an excellent job of being so descriptive that you really could visualize the settings and the characters as if you were watching them live. That is my idea of a great read! If you are looking for a well-written collection of scary stories, look no further: this is it!
